Honoring Marjorie Fujara, MD

This event is also a celebration of the Diversity, Spirit, and Strength of Evanston families and in honor of the life of local hero Marjorie Fujara, MD, who worked tirelessly to promote safety for children until her untimely passing in 2021.

An unsung local heroine, compassionate doctor, loyal friend, Brownies troop leader, St. Nick’s parishioner, devoted mother and wife. Marjorie Fujara was also one of the first pediatricians in the country specializing in child abuse pediatrics. On staff at the Cook County Health and Hospital Systems and the Children’s Advocacy Center, Dr. Fujara was a fierce advocate for child abuse and violence prevention. She created a program to teach pediatric residents about child abuse prevention. She was a former board member of Be Strong Families and the architect of a Cook County Health program funded by a Department of Justice grant / Child Safety Forward initiative, aimed at reducing child fatalities and recurring injuries due to abuse and neglect. This national initiative uses a collaborative, community-based approach to develop and implement an innovative strategic plan. She worked tirelessly on this project, until her death from breast cancer on October 19, 2021. This event will honor her legacy as a child abuse prevention advocate.

Join us, make a donation, or both!

Donations to the Marjorie Fujara Memorial Fund help continue Marjorie’s life’s work by funding parent engagement in child abuse prevention. This fund supports the Café Seed Program, which brings Parent Cafés to communities that need them most—creating safe spaces where parents connect, share wisdom, and take an active role in preventing violence and strengthening families.

Your contribution ensures that Marjorie’s vision of stronger, safer communities for children lives on.
