Enhancing and Empowering: Conversations for Positive Change
We started daily “by the community—for the community” webinars in English and Spanish in 2020 as a response to the entropy and social isolation of the pandemic. Now, our webinar series Enhancing and Empowering: Conversations for Positive Change fosters conversation, connection, and community. Currently, webinar presenters are providing free content to the Be Strong Families community both live and on demand. The presenters are also providing deeper-dive fee-based workshops on the same topics.
Understanding Post Incarceration Syndrome
November 19, 2025 | 12:00pm - 1:00pm CT
Upcoming Webinar
with Shelia Bruno
This powerful session shines a light on the hidden trauma many face after incarceration. Post-Incarceration Syndrome (PICS) is not an official diagnosis — but it’s a very real experience marked by hypervigilance, emotional numbness, social withdrawal, institutional thinking, and difficulty trusting others.
In this session, Shelia Bruno breaks down what PICS is, how it develops, and why it impacts not only the person released but everyone connected to them. Participants will gain tools to recognize behavioral patterns, rebuild emotional safety, and approach reentry through a trauma-informed lens. Whether you’re a returning citizen, family member, or professional, this conversation will shift your understanding of what healing after prison really requires.
