Vanessa Y. Johnson

Vanessa Y. Johnson is a Bronx, NY native, holding a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction – Urban Education degree and Social Work bachelor’s degree from the esteemed HBCU, Virginia Union University. She is a proud parent of two Richmond Public Schools alumni. She currently serves as the Family Services Specialist and Independent Living Services Coordinator at the City of Richmond Department of Social Services managing the Chafee Program providing leadership at many levels.

Ms. Johnson has been an active member of Trinity Baptist Church since 2016. She currently serves on CARITAS and the Civic Engagement Committee. She is a member of the Virginia Union University National Alumni Association, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. of the Rho Eta Omega Chapter, NPHC of Metro Richmond, NAACP Richmond Chapter, National Action Network of Richmond Virginia, the National Education Association, WeGiveBecauseWeCare 365, Inc. and many more community organizations that are committed to uplifting the community. For the past 20 years, she has contributed to creative and effective youth development programs and services by establishing interagency, family, and community stakeholder relationships to improve youth and family transition outcomes. She has been a proud champion for restorative justice, educational advocacy, voter rights, and political engagement. During times of leisure, she enjoys moments with family and friends, watching old classic films, sports, reading, traveling, and community volunteerism.
